Hang in there...

Posted by vyndree1062 points  on Thu 02 of Oct., 2008 11:15 PDT
I haven't forgotten about the blog. ;)

Granted, not much new content has been added recently, but that's not for lack of effort. I have a couple articles lying around as half-done drafts, and I've been doing my best to try and keep up with emails and PMs.

RL has been taking the forefront recently — what with Blizzcon on the horizon, I have to make sure all the ducks are in line at home. This means...
  • Cleaning up the clutter in the house
  • Getting a petsitter for my menagerie
  • Freshen up the guest room for the petsitter (new linens sans cat and dog hair)
  • Giving the pets all of their shots/flea drops
  • Stocking up on feeder crickets/shrimps for the geckos/fish
  • Making sure the garden/pond/bonsai get their regular maintenance
  • Restocking the automatic fish feeder(s)
  • Doing my monthly fishy water changes
  • Getting spare keys cut for the housesitter
  • Going to the eyedoctor to check my prescription so I can actually READ the slides during the Blizzcon
  • Getting the kitties spayed so I don't come home to "grats! Cat got out while you were gone! Enjoy the KITTENS!"
  • Composting any garden veggies that are nearing the end of their lifespan
  • Getting the multiboxing "goody bags" put together for the Dual-boxing.com get together ;)
...and people wonder why I never go on vacation. >.<

The good news is, yesterday, I cleaned up the house while the kitties were at the vet getting their tubes tied. They were a bit wobbly yesterday but are back to theirselves this morning.

I've got some nice ideas for the Dual-boxing goody bags, and I'm hoping I can get the custom stuff ordered before I fly out to the 'con.

Oh, and I'm still one kodo short. So Suvega and I have been farming BRD nightly (not to mention still raiding sunwell) to get my last one. He's got kodos for all of his chars, so it's just little 'ol Velavi who needs hers.

And speaking of sunwell — Mounting Vengeance FINALLY dropped after months and months! Velani is getting close and closer to 'leet-ness, though my personal best has still only been 1900dps. I still need to sit down and evaluate my gem choices and replace some old blue gems with epics — but at the same time the 3.0 patch is on the horizon and I may need to start gemming AGI... It never ends.

In any case, I'm stretched way beyond thin. So I don't get to work on new content for the website much — but I'm still trying. Don't let that discourage you, though! Blizzcon is coming up very soon, and I plan on blogging through it with a multiboxer's perspective on the new content and design panels.

And I still owe you my evaluation of the beta. ;) So keep checking in!

Multiboxing Brewfest BRD Boss

Posted by vyndree1062 points  on Mon 22 of Sept., 2008 11:37 PDT

This is a quick view on how to do the Brewfest seasonal boss in BRD with 1 4-boxer and a solo tank. You probably can 5-box this with a prot pally tank, but we chose to take it easy.

The first section outlines how to do it with 1 tank and 4 shaman (1 resto / 4 ele).

The second section shows you how to "carry" someone.

Full Article

We've been farming the BRD boss for the past couple days on ALL of our alts (including my level 65 hunters) for the brewfest mounts. So far we've gotten two kodo's and one ram and a BUNCH of trinkets.

While I was waiting for Suvega, I ran into a group of horde camping the entrance to BRD. Needless to say, they ran away and I decided to take watch of the BRD entrance for an hour or so.

Huzzah for the skellies!

What happened to the website?

Posted by vyndree1062 points  on Thu 18 of Sept., 2008 00:37 PDT
Well, the unthinkable happened — I started getting a bit more traffic than my current server could handle, so I requested for an update.

The update... happened... Or at least, it happened according to the hosting company.

But I am unable to access any resources from my "upgraded" server. Not remote access, not the control panel, not even the ability to request an OS reimage.

What's worse — I contacted support and they directed me to send an e-mail to some server email address because I'm not using shared hosting. It's been OVER 24 hours, and there has been no response from my multiple emails harassing the aforementioned email address.

I finally wheedled a phone number to reach the server techies directly, so I'll continue harassing to see if I can get my hands on more recent data. I did do a backup on Friday — but unfortunately it looks like something in the backup just didn't work right... recent data is missing and some UI components are gone... I can get my hands on the UI components, and I'm looking for some cached information for the lost data (yay RSS feeds)...

This will be an "adventure".

UPDATE: We're now on a new server, with a brand spankin' new CMS, and I took some of the downtime to make sure there are some shiny new features. Enjoy!

DOUBLE UPDATE: Apparently some browsers/resolutions are having trouble with the page layout and theme. If you're having problems, please contact me with your browser and monitor resolution so I can see what I can do to fix it.

WotLK Beta... x5

Hooray! Not one, but FIVE WotLK beta invites!

Granted, I opted in with 6 accounts, but I have the notion that Blizzard is only pseudo-random with this whole beta invite thing. After all, 5 of my account names have similar naming conventions, while my older account (one I had solo-boxed on) has a different name.

Ah, well.. Just a hypothesis — because Suvega's 5 accounts got beta invites too. ;)

imageNogs on dual-boxing.com just posted his website full of multiboxing-related wallpapers and the like.

I absolutely adore "Deadly Grace" — it's found a permanent home on my work PC. ;)

Take a look!

Ask V: Raid icons!

Posted by vyndree1062 points  on Thu 18 of Sept., 2008 00:05 PDT

Xerga was nice enough to post on the Vboxing forums with a question! Lets get right into it!

Hiya V!
I just had a question about the hunter 5boxing Deadmines video. It looks (to me at least) like you're assigning a raid icon & the pets are automatically attacking their designated targets. Could you share how you did that with those of us who don't know how to already? Thanks much, and I'm loving the site =)
Xerga

Whee, this is a question I get asked alot. :)

If you haven't already seen it, my 5 Hunter Deadmines video is in the video blog.

One of the key features in that video that everyone takes a moment to oogle over, is my use of Raid Icons as markers for my pet's targets.

Most of you will instantly recognize the all-familiar skull icon. Heck, sometimes I use it in pug runs ("Everyone kill the skull!!"). Raid icons are a very handy way — multiboxing or not — to have a visible visual cue for different roles?. In my raiding guild, every mage has "their" icon, which always gets used for them when they are assigned to sheep something. This simplifies the run and makes things nice and speedy since we don't have to go over the strat every time we pull trash.

...but I digress.

Raid icons are great for multiboxers because we are trying to keep track of multiple roles?. In the case of the hunters, I'm trying to keep track of which pet is tanking which mob.

Ask V: Building Macros for Multiple Roles

Posted by vyndree1062 points  on Thu 18 of Sept., 2008 00:03 PDT

This question was asked on a World of Warcraft e-mail alias at work, and I've gotten quite a few comments about my response. Since many feel it's useful, I'm reposting it here as a reference. :)

"I've decided to do the whole recruit-a-friend(myself) thing, and am planning on 2-boxing a hunter and priest.

The question is how to effectively dual box different classes?

Do i just put 1 on follow and essentially solo with the other class? Do i do most of my dps with the hunter, and just throw on SW:P with the priest and use the priest to heal the hunter/pet whe needed, during which time the hunter is just doing auto shot and nothing else?

Do i bind key presses such that an attack the hunter will only use once a match (say, hunter's mark) throws up SW:P, whie i can use some other lesser used ability of the hunter's as the priest doing /target ?
Or do I try to play both as much as possible, either alt tabbing quickly or just playing on my desktop and laptop simultaneously, pressing buttons on both keyboards furiously?

Anyone have any suggestsions/advice on this? (I'm open to any talent spec that makes this easiest... doesn't matter too much until 70 anyway)"

The trick to separate classes? (and indeed, separate roles?) is to find as many abilities that are similar, and match them up.

Alternately, a good idea is to find a nice rotation and basically “faceroll” the other character by putting a /castsequence with that rotation on every button on their bar. However, I find this to be very unelegant and not nearly as flexible as the first.

Trials and Lowbies and Zhevras... oh my!

Posted by vyndree1062 points  on Thu 18 of Sept., 2008 00:00 PDT
Yes, it's true!

There are additional benefits to referring a friend that apply only to new refer-a-friend trial accounts.

They include...
  • Summons between referrals and referree's once an hour
  • 3x experience gained (non-gray mobs/quests) when grouped with your referral
  • Every 2 levels gained by your referral can be applied to give the referree's lower or equal leveled character a "free" level (up to level 60)
  • 1 month free gametime when the referral pays for 1 month of gametime
  • Zhevra mount when the referral pays for 2 months of gametime
  • boggle!*
I wish I had made all of my accounts now instead of almost a year ago! Zhevra mount? Yes, please! Does this mean Vyndree might soon be 10-boxing?? You'll have to wait and see.... ... does anyone need a referral key? *hint hint, nudge nudge* ;) read more (2 pages)

Ghost Sabers

I decided to suck it up and get 5 ghost sabers for my 5 hunters (level 30) once I had the new low-level mount to help me zip around.
